Happy Family

Hello Parents,

We hope everyone had a pleasant long weekend and are already getting back into the swing of things. Before you know it the weekend will be here again, and we came across an article on HuffingtonPost that intrigued us, so we had to share: 5 Secrets to a Happy Family. Curious? See the five points below and head on over to HuffingtonPost to get the details.

1. Let your kids pick their punishments.
2. Don’t worry about family dinner.
3. Tell your family history.
4. Ditch the sex talk.
5. Change where you sit.

Some of these had us scratching our heads, but when we read on the rationales were pretty obvious. For the background on these five pointers, click here.

Now we leave you with a photo slide show that we are sure will bring smiles to your face, whether or not you decide to follow the five secrets suggested by the HP.

If you’re still working on making this day extra special for your kids, we have found a great post on ideas you can make with items  you likely already have at home: ice cream!!!

Back in June of last year, Newly Domesticated Goddess rounded up some Clever Ways to Serve Ice Cream, and linked up to other sites with fun ice cream ideas. Below is a photo of one idea she links up to from Decorada which is perfect for today. Click here to check out her post.

Picky Eaters

Hell0 Parents,

Hope everyone had a great weekend, enjoyed the Super Bowl, and is now ready for a wonderful week ahead. As we get the week started, we came across an interesting article on Babble about picky eaters written last Thursday. Many of you probably have some great eaters at home, who will devour anything you put in front of them; many of you  however, encounter the total opposite day in and day out. You know children, while some are willing to experiment with all kinds of foods, others stick with the trusted chicken nuggets and mac-n-cheese for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Melissa d’Arabian, Cooking Channel hostess and winner of The Next Food Network Star, shares seven tips for addressing picky eaters on Babble’s interest page, Working Moms Lifestyle. See the seven tips below, and head over to the article for full details on each, here.

7 Tricks to Transform Your Picky Eaters

1. Let your kids pick the produce

2. Go to the farmer’s market, for entertainment

3. Serve at least two vegetables at dinner

4. Have the kids “present” dinner

5. Invite Your Kids to Plan the Menu

6. Make one meal for the whole family, and have the “no thank you” bite

7. Give them “taste-tester” notebooks

We thought these were great tips, and couldn’t wait to share them with you. Please share us your story with us when you try these with your kids.

Do you have any tried and tested tricks for getting your kids to try new foods? Tell us in the comments section below.
