Surprise Eggs & Marshmallow Drops

Hello Parents,

Thinking of bunnies and pastel colors already? How could you not, Easter is all around us! With the sweet holiday fast approaching you may be wondering what you can do with the kids to get them all excited – The Chirping Moms gave us a different take on decorating eggs, on the 5 Easter Activities to do With Kids post.

Blogger mom, Courtney, writes about Surprise Eggs: “This is a fun twist on dying eggs. After you boil the eggs, write on them or draw pictures with crayons. Then, when the kids dye them, the designs pop up like magic!”

If you’re looking to celebrate Easter with something other than an egg hung, check out the marshmallow drop happening at 9:30 a.m. next Saturday, March 30, 2013 in Miami Shores Village at the Recreational Fields. You can also begin celebrating Easter already, Munchkin Fun has shared many of the Easter activities around the city; there are plenty to choose from this weekend and next.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day

Hello Parents,

“top of the morning to ya!”

Taking a moment today to wish all of you a very happy St. Patrick’s day, and may the luck of the Irish find you in great spirits. Need a couple of last-minute ideas to celebrate the holiday with the kids? Check out this post on tasty treats using Lucky Charms from Cool Mom Picks. Did someone say Lucky Charms Ice Cream Sandwich? Sounds like the perfect treat for a day like today. Yum!

LuckyCharmsIceCreamSandwichStPatricksDayrecipe

Interestingly the luck of the Irish is often referenced in a very positive tone, yet the Irish people have endured some pretty bad luck. So, does “luck of the Irish” mean you’re wishing someone bad luck? Not exactly. Some believe the phrase originated the USA; while it’s hard to traced there are a couple of scenarios that give it a little more meaning.

  • Irish legend tells that finding or catching a leprechaun – who would then give you gold – was a lucky event, which could only happen in Ireland.
  • During the exploration for gold in the west, there were a large number of Irishmen who got lucky and found their “pot o’ gold” in the gold fields of California, or were also equally prosperous in silver mining.

There you have it folks, a little Irish lesson to get us through the day. So, when you’re wishing the Luck of the Irish on someone, we now know that you are wishing them success in all they do – and hoping they catch a leprechaun or two!

We’ve been getting a lot of great photos this month, and some really fun ones from Friday’s St. Patrick’s Day festivities. Check back often to see when the photos get up loaded, and remember we always put more photos on Snapfish, organized by classroom to make it easier to go straight to your kids’ pictures.

It is PI Day!

Hello Parents,

As you know, it is never too early to get your kids excited about math, and today is the perfect opportunity to tell them a little more about pi. No, it’s not a misspelling, I’m not referring to the delicious cherry-filled kind, but the arithmetic pi: the mathematical constant that is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, and is approximately equal to 3.14159. As long as we’re talking about circles and pi’s why not celebrate with a slice.

For those of you with kids entering elementary school soon, here’s a little supply that is sure to have your kids always remember pi day. Why should we limit ourselves to number 2 pencils anyway! Click the image and you’ll be redirected to the Wacodis Etsy shop.

I leave you with a last note of genius fun fact, today would have been Albert Einstein’s 134th birthday!

Easy St. Patrick’s Day Crafts

Hello Parents,

Hope everyone had a great weekend and remembered to spring forward on Sunday morning. Spring is quickly approaching and a sure sign of it is the preparations everywhere for St. Patrick’s Day and the Easter holidays.

We will be posting Easter activities for you to do with the kids soon enough, but St. Patty’s is just around the corner and we couldn’t pass up a chance to search high and low for the pot of gold and four-leaf clover.

Cool Mom Picks had a great post on five easy St. Patrick’s Day craft ideas that you can do with the kids with items that you probably have at home already. Here are pictures of the activities, more info on materials and instructions on the Cool Mom Picks blog.

Which one will you do? They’re so easy you can make a different one every day of the week. We’re thinking the spinach chips may soon take on the shape of many other holiday symbols.

Be sure to check out the Cool Mom Picks blog for the details on these fun ideas and more. Please share in the comments section if you do any of these with the kids and how it turned out.

Want more St. Patrick’s Day craft ideas? Check out the many posts on Pinterest boards with ideas on the topic, you’ll find crafts you can do with the kids and some nice DIY ones for decorating the home or setting up just the right Irish party.

Happy kids = Happy parents

Hello Parents,

We know you’re happy when you get a glimpse of the kids days throughout the week and well, we like to see the kids happy, which in turn must mean we like to see you happy. There is a lot of happiness around here, cold weather and all. We’re not going to let a little chill conquer us, and so we are sharing with you some photos of Alejandro’s birthday, Oreo days, and fun days to warm your heart this week.

Let’s begin our photo session wishing Alejandro Rio a very fantastic first birthday!!!! We loved celebrating this big day with him and hope he enjoyed his special day.

For a special treat in the toddler 2 classroom Chase brought Oreo cookies, and we all know how hard to resist the 100 year old cookies are. The kids enjoyed them to the last bite.
