Kick it!

Hello Parents,

If you haven’t already heard, our soccer classes are back this week. They’re offered in the afternoons, different days for different age groups. Be sure to contact Mylene or Milly to get more details, or you can call Super Soccer Stars directly at 305-777-7077.

Soccer clinics are offered by Super Soccer Stars. They’ve been working with Cherry Blossom since our opening and the kids have grown to love the coaches they see every week. After school activities such as the soccer clinics help the children develop their large motor skills, coordination, as well as character and team building, among others.

WW: Ponies and more

Hello Parents,

In lieu of today’s pony activity, we thought it would be great to carry the ponies on home. No, we are not sending any live animals to your home, but why not make one? Here are the instructions for making a Horse on a Stick for your kids to gallop all around the house. And you don’t even have to feed it. We found this fun craft on eHow. See below for details as noted on the site.

Things You’ll Need

  • Wooden dowel, cut to size
  • Scrap circle of fabric, approximately 20 cm in diameter
  • Bag of polyester filling
  • Large needle
  • Heavy duty thread
  • Large, heavy-duty sock
  • 2 large buttons
  • 1 square of heavy brown felt
  • Fabric glue
  • Ball of wool
  • Wool needle
  • 1 inch wide ribbon
  • Twine

Instructions

You can always use a broom stick and cut it down to size.

Prepare the wooden dowel, making it safer for little ones. Loosely stitch around the scrap circle approximately 2.5 cm from the edge. Once you reach the end, leave the needle and thread attached. Pack the circle tightly with a few handfuls of polyester filling. Pull the thread tight and the circle will form into a ball. Leave enough space to fit the filled scrap ball into the head of the dowel. Pull the thread to tighten and knot it.

Don't worry what the socks look like.

Stuff the sock tightly with polyester filling. The more filling, the better the horse’s head will be. Leave enough space to insert the dowel. The heel of the sock will make the horse’s head. Sew a large button onto each side of the face. Cut two ears from heavy duty felt and stitch them on top. Cut round nostrils and a mouth from the felt and glue them in place.

Use yarn for the horse's mane.

Thread a large-eyed wool needle with yarn. Starting at the top of the head, sew large “loops” down the length of the sock. This will make the horse’s mane. Secure the yarn with a knot at the bottom. As an alternative, use some upholstery fringing and sew it down the back. Use the 1-inch ribbon to create a bridle for the horse, sticking it into place.

The horse is now ready to ride.

Attach the head to the dowel. Using twine, stitch around the opening of the sock. Place the head onto the covered dowel as far as it will go. Once you have it in place, pull the twine tight, closing the sock around the dowel. Secure it in place.

There are more tutorials for a horse on a stick linked on the eHow page, so be sure to visit it to get more details. And now, we couldn’t leave you thinking of horses without linking up the slideshow of the kids enjoying the horses and the petting zoo. Enjoy the photos and be sure the check back on Snapfish tomorrow for more.
